Autism Services

Gold-standard ADOS-2 and ADI-R diagnostic evaluation with comprehensive support—the only clinic in Hawaiʻi with these specialized credentials.

Answers That Change Everything

Getting an autism diagnosis—or ruling one out—can transform your family's journey. It opens doors to services, explains years of confusion, and helps you understand your child (or yourself) in a completely new way. At Blüm Health, we provide the definitive answers families need.

Our providers hold research-reliability certification in both the ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule) and ADI-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised)—the gold-standard assessment tools used in research worldwide. We are the only clinic in Hawaiʻi offering this level of diagnostic precision.

But diagnosis is just the beginning. We provide comprehensive support including ABA therapy, family training, school consultation, and coordination with community resources. We walk alongside families from first concern through ongoing support.

Our Autism Services

ADOS-2 Diagnostic Evaluation

The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule is a structured observation that assesses communication, social interaction, play, and restricted/repetitive behaviors. We're certified in all modules for toddlers through adults.

Research-reliability certified Our clinicians have achieved research-reliability status, meaning our assessments meet the gold standard used in autism research studies worldwide.
All modules (toddler-adult) Certified in Modules 1-4 covering the full developmental range: preverbal toddlers through verbally fluent adults.
Gold-standard tool The ADOS-2 is considered the most valid and reliable autism diagnostic instrument available, used in research and clinical settings worldwide.
Detailed report Comprehensive written report including scores, observations, diagnostic conclusions, and specific recommendations for support.

ADI-R Parent Interview

The Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised is a comprehensive parent interview that gathers developmental history and current functioning. Combined with ADOS-2, it provides the most reliable diagnosis possible.

Research-reliability certified Administered by clinicians trained to research-reliability standards for the most accurate diagnostic information.
Developmental history Detailed exploration of early development, language acquisition, and social milestones from infancy through present.
Current functioning Assessment of present-day social communication, relationships, interests, and behavioral patterns.
Parent perspective Valuing parents as experts on their child—your observations and insights are essential to accurate diagnosis.

Early Autism Screening

Enhanced screening starting at 16 months using our Autism Severity-Based Screening Tool combined with M-CHAT-R/F. Early identification means early intervention—when it's most effective.

Starts at 16 months Earlier than standard screening schedules, allowing identification and intervention during critical developmental windows.
Proprietary screening tool Our Autism Severity-Based Screening Tool, developed through DNP research, identifies children who need further evaluation.
M-CHAT-R/F Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers with Follow-Up—the validated standard screening tool for young children.
Immediate next steps If screening indicates concern, we can schedule diagnostic evaluation immediately—no waiting for outside referrals.

Adult Autism Evaluation

Many adults were missed in childhood, especially women and those who "mask" well. We provide diagnostic evaluation for adults using ADOS-2 Module 4, helping you finally understand your neurodivergent brain.

ADOS-2 Module 4 The module specifically designed for verbally fluent adolescents and adults, adapted for adult presentation patterns.
Masking assessment Understanding camouflaging behaviors—how you've learned to hide autistic traits—which is common in late-diagnosed adults.
Women & AFAB focus Expertise in recognizing autism presentation in women and AFAB individuals, who are often missed by traditional criteria.
Late diagnosis support Guidance on processing diagnosis, identity integration, disclosure decisions, and accessing adult autism resources.

Structured Family Training

Our signature 12-week program teaches parents evidence-based strategies to support their autistic child's development. Based on our DNP research, this program empowers families with lasting skills.

12-week curriculum Comprehensive program covering communication, behavior support, sensory needs, daily living skills, and advocacy.
Evidence-based Strategies drawn from research-supported interventions including naturalistic teaching, visual supports, and positive behavior support.
Parent coaching Hands-on practice with feedback—not just information, but skill-building through guided practice.
Home implementation In-home sessions where we help you apply strategies in your actual environment with your family's routines.

Frequently Asked Questions

At what age can autism be diagnosed?

Autism can be reliably diagnosed as early as 18-24 months by experienced clinicians using gold-standard tools. However, many children aren't diagnosed until school age, and adults can be diagnosed at any age.

What if my child doesn't have autism?

Ruling out autism is valuable information too. We'll identify what is causing your concerns—whether it's a language delay, anxiety, ADHD, or something else—and connect you with appropriate support.

Does insurance cover autism evaluation?

Most insurance plans in Hawaiʻi cover autism diagnostic evaluation, including Med-QUEST and TRICARE. We handle prior authorization and work with your insurance to maximize coverage.

How long is the wait for evaluation?

Unlike many clinics with 6-12 month waits, we typically schedule evaluations within 2-4 weeks. We understand that waiting is agonizing when you need answers.
